MARKET AND INDUSTRY DYNAMICS
On December 5th, at the 2024 Photovoltaic Industry Annual Conference hosted by the China Photovoltaic Industry Association and the People's Government of Yibin City, Cao Renxian, Chairman of the China Photovoltaic Industry Association and Chairman of Sunac Power, stated that in the first three quarters of this year, the scale of photovoltaic manufacturing continued to grow, and the output of polysilicon, silicon wafers, and battery modules all increased by more than 20% year-on-year; The demand on the application side continues to grow. From January to October this year, China added 181GW of photovoltaic installed capacity, a year-on-year increase of 27%. The demand in overseas markets has increased, and the export of photovoltaic cells and modules in China increased by 40% and 15% respectively in the first ten months of the year. However, while the industry is rapidly developing, it is important to be aware of the many challenges it faces. Under the imbalance of supply and demand, product prices continue to decline, and corporate profit margins are severely squeezed; Trade protectionism is on the rise, and Chinese photovoltaic enterprises are facing very unfair treatment in the international market, resulting in significant obstacles to exports. In addition, the lack of coordination between upstream and downstream of the industrial chain, high non-technical costs, and lagging policies for supporting industries such as energy storage have all hindered the healthy development of the industry to a certain extent. Faced with these difficulties and challenges, Cao Renxian believes that the photovoltaic industry must adhere to the innovation driven development strategy, increase research and development investment, promote marketing innovation, deepen industry university research cooperation, break through core capabilities, and enhance industry competitiveness and technological level. At the same time, he also pointed out the current difficulties in the industry: "Now everyone is bleeding and the gross profit margin is extremely low. May I ask what resources and funds are you using to innovate?" Cao Renxian called for strengthening industry collaboration, optimizing industrial layout, rational planning of production capacity, and achieving resource sharing. He emphasized, "Don't think that you can live, others will definitely die. Think that everyone is working hard, and don't overestimate yourself." In terms of expanding the market, Cao Renxian believes that we should actively expand overseas markets, seize the opportunities of international division of labor, actively participate in international competition, strive for more voice, and fight for the legitimate rights and interests of the vast number of overseas enterprises. Finally, Cao Renxian emphasized the importance of industry self-discipline, believing that bidding below cost is tantamount to self harm, and called on industry colleagues not to take the extreme path of "leaving others with no way out". He stated that only through fair competition can the sustainable development of the industry be achieved.
